Towel Upgrade with Serena & Lily

There comes a time in a girl's life when you realize it's time to grow up and get some nice towels.  In the tiniest bathroom on the planet, we also are lacking an enclosed linen closet.  We have shelves which I dream about adding doors to, but until then, our towels are out on display.  Hubby and I had registered for towels for our wedding... 8 years ago... when we were still in an apartment.  We had no dedicated bathroom colors, so we registered for 5 different colors.  Not even 5 different coordinating colors.  Not one of my best decisions.  After 8 years, not only were the towels a more than a little worse for wear, but I was sick of looking at crazy (now faded) colors on our bathroom linen shelves.  Time to upgrade and simplify!

I had picked up some basic white towels in the past couple weeks, but when Serena & Lily reached out asking me to try their super plush Calistoga Bath Towels I saw it as a sign.  I'm not normally one to put too much thought into towels, but these might have me changing my tune.  I got the color Horizon which is a soft gray that would work in almost any bathroom and they're super soft and fluffy.

Even hubby was pleasantly surprised by these towels.  They're a bit shaggier than your typical towel which makes them really squishy plush.  According to their website, it's shagginess (technical term) also makes for faster drying time.  I'll need to test these longer to verify their findings.

On a separate note, luxury bath towels are the best towels to make baby burritos out of if you ask me.

Somehow having a few nice towels helps my itsy bathroom feel a bit more luxe.  Excuse me while I close my eyes and dream that my bathroom has a tub bigger than 4 feet long and you can't use the toilet and sink at the same time.  Dreams for our next house.  My only complaint about these towels is that they don't come in 'bath sheet' size.  The only thing better than a soft, fluffy towel is a giant, soft, fluffy, towel.  And the only thing better than a giant, soft, fluffy towel is a straight-outta-the-dryer, giant, soft, fluffy towel #justsayin.

Millie: Bathroom Reveal!

I hope you enjoy these updates as I learn to navigate through the business of flipping houses.  This flip, Millie is the most challenging and most exciting yet! You can find more about this house and about my 3 previous flip houses here. After a week of reveals, we've finally reached Friday and the last space inside the house to show you: the family bathroom!

Originally it was giving me a bad case of the blues.  A very bad case.

But no more

One of the key things that I did in this bathroom to make it feel so much larger was to pull both the sink and the tub of the floor.  Now that you can see the tile floor continuously, the bathroom feels much more spacious.

And the shower curtain still makes me weak in the knees- SO perfect for the space!

Aside from my sheer excitement to be wrapping up all the interior work, I'm also very relieved that the yard didn't fare too terribly over the winter.  After all the time and energy that I spent on it last fall I was afraid that it would be back to a mess this spring.  Let's take a walk down memory lane.

While not in bloom quite yet, the view on this charming little street/walkway has changed for the better and the neighbors couldn't be more happy.

And this, I kid you not...

turned into this (disclaimer: when I say turned into, I do mean took many many hours of sweat and hard labor).  For a reference point- the holly filling up the left of the before pic is the nicely trimmed holly bush to the right of the porch.

I couldn't be happier with the transformation that this house has gone through!

Millie: Master Suite Reveal!

You can find more about this house and about my 3 previous flip houses here. So far we've visited the finished kitchen and upstairs hallway and bedrooms.  Today we visit the new master suite!

If you'll remember, this master suite did not exist when I bought the house.  Changing this den/reading nook into a master bedroom and bathroom added the most value to this house of anything I did.  It took it from a 3 bed, 1 bath to a 4 bed, 2 full bath.

It's nice to be reminded of where it started.

Oh 70s paneling.

Aaaahhhhhh, no more paneling, wallpaper, or crazy wall texture over wallpaper.  Nice smooth walls.

Luckily, I didn't need to do much to transform this room into a bedroom.  It already had a pocket door at the entry and built-ins.  All I needed to do was close off a pass through to the kitchen and create a sweet bathroom in the reading nook off to the side.

The pass-through to the kitchen combined with 2 small back to back closets are now a pretty walk in closet.

No more pass through.

The built-in just got minor repairs and some new paint.  Please please PLEASE refrain from painting cabinet hardware.  Especially blue.  The last owner LOVED blue.

I saved a light from the entryway which may have been original to the house and used it in here.

To create a new bathroom, we enclosed this little reading nook and built a new pocket door- complete with salvaged leaded glass to match the rest of the house.

I did have to sacrifice the canvas ceiling in this little reading nook, but I think the bathroom was a worthwhile trade.

The bathroom got shiplap walls, a claw foot tub, a dresser-turned-vanity, and naturally, a toilet.

Luckily we were able to salvage enough plate rail removed from the bathroom to patch in for the new smaller opening in the bedroom.

I don't know about you, but I'd love to live in this master suite.  You (I) had me at clawfoot tub.

Maybe in my next house (that I live in), I'll build one for myself.
