Pin and Tell

Pin and Tell: Bold Entrance

This week’s Pin:

Why?

An entryway is your first chance to impress your guests, why not make a statement?!

The space itself isn't overly large or grandiose on its own, however the designer used scale perfectly to maximize the space visually.  The large console and oversized frame serve to make the entry feel much larger than it actually is.  The pattern on the floor not only draws you into the space, but it's an optical illusion, again making the entry seem more spacious.

This entryway is a stellar example of filling a space to make it seem larger.  Less isn't always more, interiors-wise.

In addition to all the entryway's amazingness, that drum light is also calling to me.  It's telling me that it wants to be in my dining room.  I think it's right, don't you?

This week’s Pin

Why?

As the title hints, I'm conflicted about this room.  There are elements that I absolutely adore which is why I'm showing it today, but there are also elements that leave me scratching my head.

Adore: the couch.  I'm kind of in love with it.  It looks cozy and chic, plus I'm a sucker for tufting.  I wish I could curl up into a ball in the corner of that couch and never leave.  At the very least, I want to pet it.  Its pretty and looks soft, so I want to touch it.  (I know that probably sounds a tad nuts...)  The coffee table is the perfect compliment- elegant, but current.

I'm on the fence about the amount of art, but leaning toward love on that.  I think if they just took away one or two pieces I'd be totally convinced.

The head-scratchers: wtf curtains, you ruin the room.  I like the graphic impact of the curtains... in a different room.  In this space, it seems a little schizophrenic.  The sofa, coffee table, and art have an effortless collected look to them.  The curtains look like they're trying too hard.  Same thing with the 'chandelier'.  It just seems flat in a space with decadent textures (pardon the pun, but its true).  Take away the curtains and the chandelier and I'll give it thumbs up.

Bottom line?  Can I take that sofa home with me?  Maybe in another color, but **swoon**.

This week’s Pin

Why

It's not a secret that have organization on the brain, so you can probably guess what drew me to this latest "Pin."

I swoon over that storage unit.  I love the asymmetrical stack on top of the simplistic wooden legs.  Not only is it the most interesting piece in the room, its also the only introduction of color.  The rest of the space would borderline on too simple if it wasn't for details like the lucite chair.

Now I just have to figure out how I can build an amazing unit like that for my basement.  It can't be that hard..... right?
