Treasure Hunting

Meanwhile at Brimfield

....I bought a chair.  Anyone surprised?  Although you may have caught a glimpse on instagram, lets first explore things I didn't purchase amongst the junky vintage amazingness that is Brimfield, MA. Brimfield antiques, Spring 2014

It was a rainy, rotten day on Friday, so there were a good lot of vendors that weren't even open and we probably missed a ton, but it was still a blast!  It is so easy to go into awesomeness overload (or junk overload, you pick)...

Brimfield mcm cabinet, Spring 2014

The pinkish cabinet with glass doors on top was only $30!  I tried to rack my brain for a place for it, but realized, sadly, that I could not give it a home- I hope someone did!

At the end of the day, I had spent only $28, but it was $28 very well spend if you ask me!

$25 went to this amazing mid-century chair.   I'm not just a member of Chair Hoarders Anonymous, I'm the founder and president.

Brimfield MCM Chair Before 1

I don't think a chair has ever needed to be reupholstered more- the vinyl has been scratched right through to the wood below.

Brimfield MCM Chair Before 2

It also kinda stinks (just musty.... it was out in the rain after all), but I don't care, I love it!  I had actually walked away from it, but it kept nagging at me, so I went back and haggled him down $10. #alwayshaggle

Brimfield MCM Chair Before 3

It's very sturdy, heavy, and well built.  It's only issue really, is the upholstery, which I think I can do something about.  I hope my reupholstery skills are up to the task!  This style of chair will require much more sewing and precision than the last, but I'm up for the challenge!  I'm thinking a sexy but studious gray tweed might be in order, don't you agree?

I love hate to keep you in suspense, but I'm not going to show you today what I spend the remaining $3 of my $28 purchases on.  It's in the process of getting a mini-makeover, so pop back Wednesday to see my $3 find all spruced up and styled!

I'm already looking forward to the Brimfield antique show's next go around in July!  Did you get a chance to go this time?  If so, I'd love to see your treasures!

Craigslisting: Spring Edition

With the onset of warmer weather, that mean's that tag sale season should be ramping up!!  Who's excited??  That's right, this girl!  There was only one last week that I stopped at, I'm hoping there will be more in the coming weeks. In order to get us all excited for some amazing tag sale treasures, I thought it was time for another Craigslist Treasure Hunt!

craiglist antique fridge

Let start with this working vintage GE fridge for $150.  Not an amazing steal, but it looks like it's in pretty nice condition and I just love those lines.  I wouldn't be so bold as to put it in a kitchen (although I've seen it done and it can be amazing), I'd actually put this in a game room or basement hang-out.  Refreshments for all!

craiglist cast iron sink

This cast iron sink is FREE if you take it with a pile of wood.  In fact, if you want the wood, you MUST take the sink.  What??  I know you're probably thinking that I'm crazy here, but I practically die over these sinks.

Do you think I'm crazy now?

Getting back to Craigslist... Let's go Mid Century Modern on your space:

craigslist MCM bar cabinet

$75 for this MCM liquor cabinet could go either way.  It's a neat piece, certainly, and would add some style to a space, but quality might be questionable.  Due to the poor photo quality on the listing, I'm not sure if this is actually wood or laminate... if it was wood, $75 is an awesome deal!  laminate? meh.  I'd hold off.

craigslist MCM bar stools

If you just want to add a small touch of MCM to your space, can I suggest these bar stools?  3 for $60.  The black is a little masculine for my taste, but with a new fabric, I'm sold!

Lastly:

Craigslist ethan allen blue sofa

$300 might be a bit steep for this Ethan Allen sofa in my opinion, but it has tons of potential.  I simply adore the line of the back and the tailored tufting.  If you can work the blue into your space, this could be an unbeatable deal.  I would definitely recommend, however, removing that skirt (like I did here).  With a little leg showing, she'd be a show-stopper.  Ideally, I'd love to reupholster this in a textural neutral, but at $300 it might be a bit pricy for that.

As always, I like to assure you that our local craigslist isn't all amazing deals, sunshine and butterflies... you can also get a gorilla costume HEAD, standard issue hand cuffs, or dentures....  I think I'll stick to the furniture and architectural salvage...

Have you gotten any amazing finds on craigslist lately?

Berkshires Treasure Hunting

I love and hate weekend trips at the same time.  Hate only because I come home to everything I wasn't able to do at my house over the weekend and then play catch-up, but weekend trips are pretty awesome otherwise.  This weekend was a girl's weekend (check off #3 on 30 before 30) with one of my best friends.  Antiquing in the Berkshires (Western Mass.) sounds like no fun to me.  None at all.  I hate antiques and treasure hunting and .....  yeah... needless to say, a good time was had by all.  AND we got to come home with a few fun treasures. I was a girl on a mission: end tables for my living room update.

Day 1 left me pretty high and dry mission-wise.  My only score was an adorable tea set (in less than perfect condition) for a whopping $5.  The set included only a teapot and a sugar bowl and I had plans for them the moment I laid eyes on them.

planted teapot

As you can see, the teapot-turned-planter is hanging out in the living room, while the sugar dish has found a temporary home on the kitchen window sill.

B made out like a bandit on day 1, scoring 4 awesome mid century upholstered folding chairs with brass hardware that I neglected to get a picture of.  I was too distracted by my dream lamps.

dreamy 40s lamps

Since I didn't want to sell my kidney to buy them, I walked away and wiped off the drool.

Day 2 was kinder to me and and my mission and I ended up coming home with 2 very reasonably priced side tables.  One being EXACTLY what I was looking for, and the other was just too good of a deal to pass up.

This find was the best way to start out the 2nd morning.

living room antique side table

Although not in pristine condition, thankfully this little table is only in need of some minor sprucing up.  Much to my pleasant surprise, even Hubby really likes it!  At $55 it was cheaper and in better condition than ones I had seen on Craigslist!

The other table is a small, oval flip top table.  It's most certainly not antique, but it was only $20 and I think I can Tim Gunn it (make it work!).

And here it is with my sexy reupholstered chair that I'm SUPER excited about.

Now I can't wait until the entire living room is at 100%!!
