Caught White Handed

Oh no, she got hold of the spray paint again!!  Every man for themselves! hiding-hand

I'm not sure what spoke to me about this hand vase (must have been sign language...), but when I saw it at an estate sale this weekend, I felt compelled to pick it up immediately.  $4? Ok, if you insist.  I've never seen anything like it before.  Even the strangest things can look elegant in white ceramic, right?

I tried cleaning it up, but it still looked like dingy old off-white with a bad manicure.

After checking it to make sure there were no markings that this was a priceless heirloom (spoiler alert: it wasn't), I took to it with some fine sand paper before I let her have it.

Flat white spray paint was all I had on hand (pun intended, but also true).  The white paint was just what this piece needed to make it look fresh and clean.

I borrowed an air plant from the kitchen to test out my vision.  I need to get some more air plants.  In the past year I've only killed 1 out of 5.  That's pretty decent for me with plants- I've kept 4 alive!  Throw me a parade- I'm a saint here!  Too far?  Anyway, so HAND!

For $4 you could get a fancy latte at Starbucks, but I think spending it on weird hand vases is so much more fulfilling.  It looks exactly how I pictured it on my shelf and I kind of love it.  High five! Sorry, sorry, I'll stop with the hand puns, scouts honor.... ok that was the last.  really.

I've been picking up cool old books at tag sales and estate sales, so my living room bookcase is just screaming for a full restyle in the very near future and not just the shelves that end up in hand photo shoots.

Apparently I'm feeling very cheeky pre-coffee this Monday morning.  My apologies if my cheese level was off the charts- I'll try to be more docile in Wednesday's post.  No promises.

Happy Monday!

Frankie Update

Frankie, oh Frankie.  Why must you break my heart so?  Frankie the Fliphouse (our second flip) still hasn't sold.  Great house on a good street on the wrong side of town.  Live and learn.  Without dropping the price yet again, we need to take action to get this guy gone! In the words of Sir Tim Gunn:

Make it Work print from Scoutmob

That saying's kinda a thing with Hubby and me.  I still need to frame this print that I purchased from ScoutMob and hang it properly, but I love the positive reminder.  I dare you to not hear Tim's voice when you read it!

Craigslist will be sick of me by the end of the next week or so- We've decided this house needs to be staged to help market it better.  I'm hunting, scavenging, and haggling for the best deals possible for furniture to stage an entire house.  That means mattresses, beds, dressers, etc.  I'm hoping to furnish the entire house quickly on a shoestring budget and make it look like it wasn't done on the cheap.  So far I've only set a time to pick up this guy on Saturday.

craigslist blue sofa

I know it's blue, but the style is pretty simple, it's clean and neat, and above all else, the price is right.  $50 for a sofa in good condition?  I'll take it!  Since I'm going blue on the sofa, I'm looking for a more neutral colored chair with interesting lines to accompany it.  Here are the current front-runners:

Now the race is on to see who responds to my e-mails.

I'm sure I'll come up with a quick DIY or 2 to help stage once I get some of the larger pieces procured.  Until then, I'll be that girl on my iphone every 5 minutes looking to see if anything new has been posted.

Let the staging begin!

Wired

With questionable weather still plaguing New England, tag sale season has gotten off to a late start this year.  Never fear, though- even venturing out in the rain this past Saturday, I was able to rescue this diamond in the rough for a whopping dollah.  Ain't she a beaut?? tag sale lamp shade frame

Although, not sure where it's going to end up, oh, she'll be a pretty lady once again!  Just check out the possibilities!
