I hope you enjoy these weekly updates as I navigate through the business of flipping houses one house at a time!! Come back every Friday to see how this house, aka Shorty, progresses from week to week. To catch up on the progress on Shorty, check out his previous posts here. If you’re new here, (Hello!!!) you can find more about my 5 previous flip houses here. Thanks for coming along for the ride!!
Progress happened in the same areas as last week, but things are looking more polished! I'm itching to get drywall patched so that we can start the marathon of painting the whole house!!
The new wider opening between the kitchen and living room got framed out and makes both spaces feel larger. I'm not always a fan of full-on open concept spaces, especially in old houses where it just was never meant to be, so widening the connection between 2 rooms achieves the same effect but still fits with the era of home. When finished, this opening will be trimmed with original & original to match oak trim and look like it was always meant to be.
The kitchen and powder room both got some drywall clean-up and new backer-board floors. They're just waiting for their herringbone tile now!
Upstairs, but bathroom is all tiled and grouted - with the exception of right around the window which will be finished once the trim is in.
I'm minorly obsessed with this floor. I want to put it EVERYWHERE!
Now I just need to figure out a color! I need to get more than a few color sample pots to find the right moody blue for above the tile. I don't want a color to look black, but I want it very deep, so I'll need to look at paint samples on multiple walls at multiple times of the day to narrow it down.
The highs and lows of flipping presented themselves this week. High: cabinets will be here in 2 weeks! A full month earlier than I anticipated!! Low: discovering that we probably need a new furnace and hot water heater *sad trombone*. We're getting another opinion today, but that's flipping for you! Just when you think you've uncovered all the potential major issues, the house disagrees. Luckily, I've seen a lot with flipping at this point, so big things like this don't phase me as much as they used to. This house will still be AWESOME when I'm done with it!
Bathroom sources so far (since everyone keeps asking about the swoonworthy floor tile):
